Chinese Apps Banned in India: Here’s a complete list of Chinese apps and websites banned in India. These apps were banned by section 69A under the information technology (IT) Act. The apps were banned because the government deemed they pose an imminent threat to India’s security and the general public.
Are these the latest Chinese Apps Banned? And what is the reason they have been blocked?
According to the updated listing, editing video software like Viva Video Editor- Snack Video Maker with Music and Nice Video Baidu, frequently used for creating short videos and games such as Onmyoji Chess and Conquer Online II, are removed from India. Garena Free Fire– Illuminate, A game that gained popularity among adolescents, children, and young people in India due to the suspension of the game PUBG (Alternatives), was also taken off the list.
The applications, IT ministry officials, said were banned under emergency powers granted under Section 70 of the Information Technology Act. The majority of these apps, they claimed, were running as shadow apps of the apps which were earlier prohibited in the past by the government.
The restriction on these apps was a recommendation by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, IT ministers said and added that they had been removed from Google PlayStore. In its announcement, Google said it temporarily blocked these games’ access in India.
“On receiving the interim order issued according to Section 69A of the IT Act, following established procedures, we have notified the developers affected and temporarily stopped access to applications that are still accessible through the Play Store in India,” a spokesperson for the company said.
What Were Other Chinese Apps Banned from the FDA in the past by the government?
In June of this year, the IT ministry issued a similar decision that was issued by Section 69 of the IT Act, blocking 59 apps which included TikTok, WeChat, UC Browser, ShareIt, Likee, and Bigo Live. In the reasoning, the ministry had stated that the applications were “prejudicial to the sovereignty and the security of India and the defense of India and security of the public order and state security.”
The restriction was followed up by another collection of 47 apps being exempt from operating in India starting in July 2020. They were mostly proxy apps of apps that were banned in June of 2020.
On September 2, the IT minister blocked another 118 Chinese applications, including the well-known gaming platform PUBG and Baidu, the country’s largest search engine. To date, nearly 300 apps and their proxies have been barred by authorities from the IT ministry.
First, the list of apps that were banned contained the following 58 apps. The second list was an important one since it was announced by the federal government that there would be a banning on 118 apps in September of 2020. The list contained both PUBG Mobile as well as PUBG Mobile Light. The game’s ban was met with mixed responses. While some players were thrilled, some were devastated when they heard about this decision. The third list of apps was released on November 24, the same year. It included 43 applications.
